Ischia is a wonderful place to visit for its natural beauty, charming villages, and great culture. It would be great to be able to stay for a couple of days and relax and enjoy the island. But what if you’re short on time? Fortunately, you can still have an amazing experience. Find out what to do in Ischia in one day.
ENJOY A DAY IN ISCHIA
Since you only have one day in Ischia, this itinerary will allow you to enjoy some of the highlights of the island. The good thing is that Ischia isn’t large, so you can cover a lot of ground in one day. The main spots to see are Forio, Sant’Angelo, Maronti Beach, Aragonese Castle and Porto Ischia. It’s a great combination of all of the best that Ischia has to offer.
FORIO
Start your day trip to Ischia on the western end of the island in the little town of Forio. This fascinating part of Ischia is home to several historic churches and a beautiful historic center with traditional architecture.
It’s worth it to spend time walking the narrow streets of Forio and enjoy the historic atmosphere of the town
Forio has several spas where you can relax and enjoy the natural hot springs that are prevalent in the area.
Several points offer fascinating views of the sea including the terrace at the La Mortella Gardens. Enjoy the gardens with its exotic collection of rare plants among its well-manicured grounds.
The gardens are situated on a hill that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea which allows its panoramic views.
SANT’ANGELO
From Forio head over to the village of Sant’Angelo. This village is an amazing combination of color, culture, and the sea.
Sant’Angelo is situated on a promontory and includes beaches and a promenade. It’s one of the most visually stunning areas of Ischia.
Our family loved walking the side streets and making our way through the village since it was pedestrian-only. There are several restaurants and shops as well.
The sea is the main focus and combined with the distinct architecture creates a spectacular Mediterranean vibe.
The village of Sant’Angelo isn’t the only remarkable part of this area. Take a boat ride from Sant’Angelo to Maronti Beach.
We loved the fascinating views from the sea looking back on the village and over to the beach. It was a fun and relaxing way to head to the beach.
MARONTI BEACH
Ischia and the area near Sant’Angelo have several great beaches, but Maronti Beach just may be the best on the island. The beach is very long which means that there is plenty of space even during the high season.
Our family went in June and while there were quite a few people there we never felt crowded.
There were sunbeds available to rent as well as nice and clean changing facilities which is especially great for families.
It’s a very popular beach, but it’s still a nice quiet spot to relax by the calm waters.
ARAGONESE CASTLE
After some time at the beach, make your way to the most popular landmark on the island of Ischia, Aragonese Castle. This massive medieval fortress sits at the end of a long causeway on volcanic rock on the east end of the island.
Through the years, it has served as a fortress, residence, and monastery. Take time to explore its tunnels and the museum for a captivating step back in time.
Also, check out its terraces that provide breathtaking expansive views of the island and surrounding sea.
ISCHIA PORTO
This busy port town is a hub of tourist activity. Thanks to its selection of shops, cafes, and restaurants it’s a great place to shop and find souvenirs and local goods. Walk along the seafront promenade and enjoy the amazing scenery.
If you’re looking for a place to eat, there are several restaurants right along the promenade that will provide you with a meal with a view.
