If you don’t want to make the drive yourself, the next best option is to purchase a day trip tour. There are plenty of options to choose from depending on what parts of the Algarve you want to visit. And there are lots of locations to choose from. These are some of the more popular tours:

Western Algarve between Sagres and Lagos.

Visit the western end of the Algarve including what was once thought of as the end of the world in Sagres. Lagos is a charming coastal town that also includes great natural sites such as Ponta Da Piedade and Praia Dona Ana.

Portimao and Lagos.

Enjoy the historic streets and centers of the towns of Portimao and Lagos. You’ll also be able to visit nearby beaches and the natural beauty of the region.

Sagres and Benagil Caves

Start at the southwesternmost point of Europe at Sagres and make your way to Benagil where you can visit the famous Benagil Caves as well as the nearby beach.

Private Transfer Service to the Algarve.

Hire a driver to take you to the Algarve and visit the locations that you want. From Sagres to Faro, you can decide what you want to see and not worry about driving.

The best way to get from Lisbon to the Algarve is to drive. This is approximately a three-hour drive, but mostly a straight shot, so it’s an easy trip to take even if it’s your first time making the trip.

From Lisbon, you’ll take the A2 and follow the signs for the Algarve. This will make up the most of your trip. From there take the A22 West, then N124-1 to get to Carvoeiro.

The streets of Carvoeiro

There are several options to choose from when renting a car. Going online to reserve your car well before you plan to visit is the best way to find a great deal.

Use this site to compare prices and select from several rental car agencies at once.

Many of the reservations don’t require payment upfront and have great cancellation policies. You’ll get an even better deal if you can drive a manual transmission vehicle.

When renting a car be sure to have your passport, driver’s license, and of course your credit card.

With only one day to see the Algarve and so many things to see across this beautiful region, some difficult decisions will need to be made. Perhaps the most well-known site, Benagil Caves is a must-see, so that would be the perfect spot to start your day. Carvoeiro is a great place to start your boat tour.

Benagil Caves Tour/Carvoeiro

There are several places to take a Benagil Caves tour, but Carvoeiro is a great choice.

This is the tour that we chose and it was perfect for our family.

Benagil Caves

It left from Carvoeiro and was 90 minutes long which works well with a day trip. With this tour, you’ll take a fast boat along the stunning coast and see cliffs, beaches, natural rock formations, and caves including the stunning Benagil Caves.

Carvoeiro Beach and town

Returning to Carvoeiro will place you in a charming coastal town. Take time to stroll the streets near the beach as well as the shops. You can get a great view of the beach area by taking a hike up the hill to the east of the beach. The entire area is beautiful.

Carvoeiro Boardwalk/Algar Seco/

Taking a walk on the Carvoeiro Boardwalk will provide you with one of the most stunning views in the Algarve. This seaside boardwalk perched high above the Atlantic Ocean is the ideal place to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

The boardwalk will bring you to a remarkable rock formation known as Algar Seco. This natural wonder with its captivating cliffs, turquoise water, and stunning rock formations offers a unique experience.

The area is full of natural pools and grottoes which offer an opportunity to go for a quick dip if you want.

Praia Da Marinha

Visit one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This is an area that is stunning in its natural beauty with its sandstone cliffs bordering the soft golden brown sand beach with its turquoise water.

Praia da Marinha

The beach is quite expansive with plenty of room even on a busy day. There are also nice, clean changing, restroom facilities available.

One of the signature areas of the beach is at the west end of the beach where there is the “M” rock formation that the beach is famous for.

This is one of those places that has to be seen to be believed. It’s an awesome way to spend an afternoon.
