You’ll appreciate the amazing experience of being able to stroll down the once busy streets as they were laid out centuries earlier. Also to be able to walk in and among the homes that were once full of residents of the city.
Temples, town squares and other buildings are all there to be discovered and left much the way they were before the catastrophe that would forever change the region.
Trips from Naples to Pompeii are fairly easy and straight forward. You don’t have to worry about transfers or changing lines as the train will drop you off within steps of the entrance to the site.
From the Naples train station to the Pompeii site is approximately 40 minutes. The cost is minimal and the train system like most in Italy, is reliable.
It’s generally not necessary to purchase tickets ahead of time since you can purchase them once you’re on site. That said, if you’re going during busy season it may be a good idea to purchase ahead of time.

ISCHIA
The more glamorous and well known Capri gets all of the attention and Instagram selfies. But the lesser known and photographed Ischia is a stunning destination in its own right.
This little island boasts amazing scenery and beaches. A short ferry ride can easily facilitate a Naples to Ischia day trip.
Ischia is also known for its skin healing mud, steam baths, spas and hot springs. There are several locations and options to take advantage of the special properties of this volcanic island.
Some of the best seafood in the region can also be found on Ischia so you can look for an excellent place to eat and enjoy.
One of the advantages of Ischia over Capri is the price. Nearly everything is cheaper on Ischia including the food. Whereas Capri is more catered to tourists, a visit to Ischia evokes a more authentic, real life Italian existence.
Ischia is also home to Castello Aragonese. This tremendous castle provides spectacular views of the island and surrounding area. The castle is open 7 days a week from the hours of 9 am until sunset. Several towns and villages are spread out across the island. Sant’ Angelo is one of the most beautiful villages. It has close access to one of the premier beaches, Maronti Beach which is just a short water taxi ride away.

ROME
Depending on the type of train you take, Rome can be as close as an hour away. Even on a slower train it’s only about two hours.
If you only have a day in Rome, there’s a lot that you can see since the historic center is fairly compact. You can spend time seeing the many fountains and piazzas that are scattered across the city.
It’s of course recommended to make time for its many landmarks such as the Colosseum, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. Whatever you decide to do in Rome you’re likely to have a great time.
To get to Rome you’d have to make your way to the Napoli Centrale station and take the train to Rome. It’s best to purchase your tickets ahead of time to be sure that you can arrive and return at the time that you want. The website to purchase tickets is here.
Once you arrive in Rome you’ll be dropped off at Termini Station which isn’t too far from where you want to be. From the train station you can easily take a bus or taxi to get to where you want to start your day.
Or you can simply walk since it’s the best way to see the city.
THE AMALFI COAST
The Amalfi Coast is an ideal day trip from Naples due to its stunning coastal scenery, charming villages, and easy accessibility.
Just a short drive or ferry ride away, it offers breathtaking views of cliffs, turquoise waters, and picturesque towns like Positano and Amalfi.
